This is resulting in a run on the cashier's cage for payouts. In the first 45 minutes, 25 players were in line for the money. It grew to 79 by 4:30 PM. Blair Rodman who was defending his title was eliminated as Vincent Dulac made a straight by the turn. Erica Schoenberg was gone from the tables when her all-in with big slick (A K suited) was was beaten down by the two pair (Q's and 6's) of John Bird. Justin Alexander's road to victory was washed out by the two pair (Q's and 6's) of Daniel Rome. Lou Esposito went out in 28th place after his pocket 10's were run over by the two pair (K's and 8's) of Ryan D'Angelo. Ray Foley loses to a straight, finishing in 21st place and Sergey Rybachenko ended up in 10th after the set of 8's Sergey made were overcome by the straight made by Ryan D'Angelo. Event #48 -- No-Limit Hold’em Final Table

Final notes on the event from the WSOP:

This was the largest number of entries ever for a $2,000 buy-in hold'em event. The prize pool, at over $4.2 million, is the second-largest of the 2008 WSOP. Only the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. World Championship was higher ($7,104,120). The tournament was played over three consecutive days. The final table was played at the secondary final table, as the ESPN feature table on the main stage was used for the conclusion of the $50,000 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. World Championship (Event #45) which concluded on the same day. There were huge crowds for both finales.

The $2,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em champion is Alexandre Gomes. He is a 25-year-old poker pro from Curitiba, Brazil. Gomes becomes the first Brazilian national to ever win a WSOP gold bracelet. In fact, no South American player had ever previously won a WSOP event in the 39-year history of the WSOP. Gomes won $770,448 for first place. This was his first WSOP gold bracelet. This was his first time to cash at the WSOP.

Blinds in the heads up were 50,000/100,000 and a 10,000 ante. Alexandre Gomes began with a 2.5 to 1 chip lead over Marco Johnson and never looked back. On the last hand, both players went all-in preflop with Alexandre Gomes holding A K suited and Marco Johnson has Q J suited. The table showed 4 3 2 A 4 giving Alexandre the victory with two pair (A's and 4's) along with his first ever gold and diamond bracelet.
