Main Event Day 1C

Day 1C will host another group of up to 3000 players, all starting off with 20,000 in their stacks playing for 6 levels 120 min in length. As with 1A and 1B, breaks will take place at all levels for 20 minutes and dinner break will last 1 1/2 hours. The official player numbers are as follows:
  • Day 1A: Total players entered 1,287, players that survived 447
  • Day 1B: Total players entered 1,545, players that survived 589
  • Day 1C: Total players entered 1,743, players that survived 659
Here are the blinds and antes for the levels that will be played on Day 1C:
  • Level 1 $50/$100
  • Level 2 $100/$200
  • Level 3 $200/$400
  • Level 4 $200/$400 with $50 ante
  • Level 5 $300/$600 with $75 ante
  • Level 6 $400/$800 with $100 ante
8:55 a.m. Harrah's has stated that there are 1,606 players registered to sit at the tables for Day 1C. Official numbers are 589 players that survived Day 1B. Today's round of action will start at noon. As the news comes in, we will put it here for you.

12:15 p.m. Players have taken their seats and the sound of "Shuffle up and deal!" was again heard in the Amazon room. We will post developments as they come in to us for you.

12:26 p.m. Some players seen today at the table are 2003 Main Event Champion Chris Moneymaker, Phil Ivey, Men "The Master" Nguyen, Steve Dannenmann, Phil Laak, former baseball player Jose Conseco, Gavin Griffin, Burt Boutin, Tony Hachem, Carl Olson, Vanessa Rousso, Jennifer Tilly, Rafe Furst, Bill Gazes, 2004 Main Event Champion Greg Raymer, Kenna James, Main Event Champions Robert Varkonyi and Chris Ferguson along with Ted Lawson.

1:09 p.m Big hands are a comin' today! Shannon Shorr hit quad 6's to win a hand against the other players full house to increase her stack. Primoz Apamic busted a player with quad Jacks after the player went all-in with a full house.

1:45 p.m. Grammy winning rap star Nelly is at the tables along with boxer Antonio Tarver, 1991 Main Event Champion Brad Daugherty, Clonie Gowen, Mike "The Mouth" Matusow and Shannon Elizabeth. Phil Hellmuth was seen strolling around the tables.

2:38 p.m. Phil Laak was just busted by another player's full house (K's/A's). Following him were singer Nelly, Jose Canseco who was overcome by the flush held by Amir Vahedi, Tim Phan and Antonio Tarver.

3:49 p.m. Greg Raymer was just eliminated from the Main Event.

5:09 p.m. Chris Bigler was sent to the sidelines in the past few minutes. Following him was Shannon Elizabeth, Per Ummer and Frank Kassela. And there were 1,743 players who entered today's play.

6:12 p.m. Eliminations continue with Phil Ivey, John Gale who's full house (A's/7's) was outdone by another players full house (A's/Q's), Todd Witteles who's A K could not overcome the other players pocket J's, Mike Matusow when his pocket 3's were beat up by pocket J's and Andy Bloch who's set of Kings lost to another player making a diamond flush.

7:28 p.m. More eliminations happened resulting in the following leaving the Main Event, Scott Lazar, Men "The Master" Nguyen when his set of 5's lost to a set of 9's, and Jennifer Tilly. Players will take dinner break until 9:00 p.m.

9:12 p.m. Players are back from dinner break. Here are the official attendance numbers for the Main Event so far:
  • Day 1A: Total players entered 1,287
  • Day 1B: Total players entered 1,545
  • Day 1C: Total players entered 1,743
Day 1D has the most players registered in it which should be over the 1,700 mark.

10:25 p.m. Clonie Gowen was recently busted when her A Q ran into A K. Following her was Nick "The Takeover" Schulman and Erik Cajelais. At this point we have 1,200 players left in Day 1C. Top 10 players with chip counts are Arthur Azen with 125,000 chips, Randy Brown 115,000, Chad Brown 112,000, Russell Bellamy 110,000, Carl Olson 96,000, Lee Watkinson 88,000, Ayaz Mahmood 86,000, Gavin Griffin 82,000, David Mitchell-Lolis 80,000 and Andy Miller 78,000.

11:14 p.m. Rafe Furst was eliminated when his paired Jacks lost out to the set of 6's of another player. Also lining up in the bustout hallway are Scott Pendergrast, Amir Vahedi, David Sklansky who has done well this WSOP, Shannon Shorr, Paul Snead, Tex Barch, Dan Schmiech, Olga Varkonyi, J.C. Alvarado and Pat Poels.

12:10 a.m. Monday July 9 Chau Giang is no longer in the Main Event as are Joe Cassidy, Michelle Law, Andy Goetsch and Al Krux.

1:15 a.m. Additional players out of the tourney are Kristy Gazes, Katja Thater, Ted Lawson, Joe Cassidy and Davood Mehrmand. Swimming through the player infested waters of the Main Event is none other than Humberto Brenes, letting all know that the shark is here. In prior events, he had a toy shark as a card protector which combined with his hilarious antics keep those around him constantly entertained. After winning a 50,000 chip pot, he stood up and said, "The shark is coming!!!", waving his arms in the form of shark jaws opening and closing. Everyone should keep an eye on this guy.

1:52 a.m. There are 845 players remaining with two hours to go. Players are at level 6 which has blinds of $400/$800 with a $100 ante. Recently sent to the sidelines are Kenna James, Steve Brecher, Devin Porter and T.J. Cloutier.

4:02 a.m. Play is done for the day. Last ones gone from the tourney are Gavin Griffin, Vanessa Rousso and Burt Boutin. There were 659 players that will move on to the next round.
